TOEIC Scores and Score Use

TOEIC scores provide a reliable assessment of your English-language proficiency and are valid for 2 years. Learn how to get official score reports and use TOEIC scores.

TOEIC score reports

Whether you’ll receive a score report depends on if you took the test at a public or institutional testing session.

If you take the test at a public test center independently (not through your school or employer), you’ll receive your scores directly from the local ETS Preferred Network (EPN) office. Scores are confidential and released only to you and ETS. You can also send a written request to your EPN office giving them permission to release scores to a specific organization.

Score reports are available for 2 years after your test date. For additional score reports, contact your local EPN office.

If you take  the test through your school, employer or other organization — either on site or at a test center — ETS sends scores directly to that school or organization. Scores are confidential and released only to ETS and the sponsoring organization; they aren’t globally portable.

If you feel that your TOEIC scores don’t accurately reflect your ability to communicate in English, contact your local EPN office within 1 month of the test date. View details of the score review process in the Examinee Handbook for your test.

Score use

You can use TOEIC scores to measure how well you’ll perform in the workplace and real-life situations where you need to communicate in English. They can help advance your career, get more job opportunities, and prepare you for higher education programs.

  • Corporations and government agencies use TOEIC scores to make hiring decisions and determine if employees have the English-communication skills needed to carry out specific job responsibilities or communicate successfully when working in an English-speaking country.
  • Universities, high schools and other education institutions use scores to determine if students have met specific levels of English proficiency and if they have the skills needed to communicate effectively in their careers once they graduate.
  • English training programs use TOEIC scores to help place incoming students, show student progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of their program.
